Bermuda Triangle

For decades, the infamous Bermuda Triangle in the Atlantic Ocean has captured the human imagination with unexplained disappearances of ships, planes and people.

Some speculate that unknown and mysterious forces cause the unknown disappearances, such as extraterrestrials capturing humans for study. the impact of the lost continent of Atlantis; Vortices that suck objects into other dimensions. and other whimsical ideas. Some explanations are more grounded in science, if not in evidence. These include oceanic bloat (methane gas released from ocean sediments) and disruptions in geomagnetic lines of flux.

Environmental considerations can explain many, if not most, of the disappearances. The majority of Atlantic tropical storms and hurricanes pass through the Bermuda Triangle, and in the days before better weather forecasting, these dangerous storms claimed many ships.

Also, the Gulf Stream can cause rapid, sometimes violent, changes in weather. Additionally, the large number of islands in the Caribbean create many areas of shallow water that can be treacherous for ship navigation. And there is some evidence to suggest that the Bermuda Triangle is a place where a "magnetic" compass sometimes points to "true" north as opposed to "magnetic" north.

The US Navy and US Coast Guard claim that there is no supernatural explanation for disasters at sea. Their experience suggests that the combined forces of nature and human frailty are beyond the most incredible science fiction.

He added that there is no official map that defines the boundaries of the Bermuda Triangle. The US Board of Geographic Names does not recognize the Bermuda Triangle as an official name and maintains no official file on the area.

The ocean has always been a mysterious place for humans, and when bad weather or bad navigation is involved, it can be a very deadly place. This is true all over the world. There is no evidence that mysterious disappearances occur in any other large, well-traveled area of the ocean.

The most recent scientific theory on the infamous triangle suggests that the strange disappearances of ships and airplanes may be the result of large deposits of methane gas from the ocean floor. A large burst of methane bubbles can push water away from the ship, causing it to sink. If the highly flammable methane then rises into the air, it can ignite in the plane's engine -- causing it to explode and disappear.

Fact or fiction, the Bermuda Triangle is a part of local lore that won't be disappearing anytime soon. But don't let the legend scare you -- the triangle isn't the only thing that makes this island seem magical.

A pattern reportedly began to develop in which ships passing through the Bermuda Triangle would either disappear or be found abandoned.

Then, in December 1945, five Navy bombers carrying 14 men took off from the airport at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to practice bombing some nearby shoals. But due to an apparent malfunction in his compass, the leader of the mission, known as Flight 19, became badly lost.

In all likelihood, however, there is no single theory that solves the mystery. As one skeptic said, trying to find a common cause for every Bermuda Triangle disappearance is no more logical than trying to find a common cause for every automobile accident in Arizona. Additionally, though, storms, reefs and the Gulf Stream can cause navigational challenges there.
